Wooden Statue of Chogen
This is a seated statue of Chogen, the founder of Jodoji Temple.
At about 81 cm tall, the statue mainly depicts the priest’s head and body.
The statue was sent from Nara to Jodoji Temple in 1234.
The statue, with a slightly hunched posture and a set of juzu beads held at chest level, is thought to be a copy of a statue of Chogen at Todaiji Temple.
