Inside, a wooden Amitabha statue carved by famed Buddha sculptor Kaikei is enshrined. This statue, like Jododo itself, is a National Treasure.

Amitabha is flanked by Seishi (Mahasthamaprapta) on the left and Kannon (Avalokiteshvara) on the right.

Seishi is the bodhisattva who governs our ability to recognize the important truths of our world.

Kannon, on the other hand, is a bodhisattva that embodies compassion.

The temple hall features an impressive lighting effect. When the evening sun shines through the western window, the light reflects off the floor and illuminates the roof, bathing Amitabha in light.

This magical effect evokes the divine image of Amitabha riding a cloud from the Pure Land in the west and coming to welcome us into paradise.
